Dana Eugene Veteto went home to be with the Lord at the age of 76 in Abilene on June 13th, 2021, after an extended illness.

A celebration of life will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Aaron Mitchell, pastor of Concho Street Baptist Church, officiating.  The family will greet friends after the service.  Memorials are suggested in memory of Dana to the Burkett Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 324, Burkett, Texas 76828.

Dana was born on July 21,1944 to Flora and Charles Veteto in Nash, Texas. They moved to Abilene when he was 15. Dana graduated from Wylie High School and then attended Cisco College. He enjoyed competing in calf roping in rodeos.

Dana and Teresa Gilmer married in 1994. During their marriage, they lived in Odessa and Burkett, where he raised Longhorn cattle. Later, they finally settled in Coleman.
Dana retired from working at the Huntsman plant in Odessa after 30 years. He later worked as pilot car escort for 10 years.
Dana was involved with the Burkett Volunteer Fire Department, which he helped establish in 2002. He was a member the Masonic lodge in Cross Plains # 627, and Coleman # 496. Dana was also a member of Eastern Star # 360 of Coleman Masonic Lodge. He was a past master from 2015 to 2016 in Coleman.

Dana enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, rodeos, and smoking a good brisket, especially for fundraisers.  His greatest love was the Lord, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his beloved wife of 27 years.

Dana is preceded in death by his parents, Flora and Charles Veteto, and son Wayne Gilmer.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Veteto of Coleman; his sisters, Wanda Sue Pounds of Nashville, Arkansas, and Myrna George of Haltom City; his son, Freddie Veteto; his daughter, Laurenda and husband Russ Wright of Odessa; four grandchildren, Bailey Wight of Odessa, Jamie Andrews of White Settlement, Marisa Wright of Abilene, and Briley Wright of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is dearly loved, will be greatly missed, and will remain within our heart always.
Thank you for the many messages of love and support we have received during this time of loss.

Remembrances, condolences, and messages of comfort can be expressed to the family at www.stevensfuneralhome.com.  Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Veteto family.
