Abilene High’s Nathan Watts flirted with a double-double, recording 16 points and nine rebounds to earn MVP honors and spark the North All-Stars to a 75-66 come-from-behind victory over the South Saturday at Warren Gym in the Big Country FCA All-Star Boys Basketball Classic.

The South – which included Brownwood’s Zach Porter, who dished out three assists and pulled down a rebound – led 29-24 at halftime, but couldn’t keep up after intermission.

The North shot 34 percent (29 of 85) for the game, but 44 percent (20 of 45) from the floor in the second half, while also owning a 62-51 edge in rebounds and forcing 27 South turnovers.

Along with Watts, the North was fueled by Dublin’s Daniel Escobar with 15 points, Abilene High’s Jalen McGee with eight, Eula’s Dakota Boles with seven, Big Spring’s Kyler Seymore and Lingleville’s Augustus Boeve with six each, Clyde’s Jacob Roberts with five, Jayton’s Tripp Scott and Abilene High’s Jackson Stevens with three apiece, and Forsan’s Mason Hillger, Cisco’s Layne Edgar and Hermleigh’s Devin Hildebrand with two points apiece.

The South sank 35 percent (26 of 81) of its shots but was outscored by 12 points from beyond the three-point arc and by four points at the free throw line.

Scoring for the South were San Saba’s Logan Glover with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds – both game-highs – along with eight points from Ballinger’s Jonathan Delgado, seven from Winters’ Alexander Salas, five each from San Angelo TLCA’s Jevon Everitt and Menard’s Kallin Kothmann, four from Wylie’s Colby Tanner, three from Balinger’s Ryan Elliott, and two points apiece from Cross Plains’ Cody McWilliams and Hawley’s Tanner Gillmore.
