The 45th Heartland Cruisers Rod Run Car Show scheduled for Saturday has been moved to the Bruner Auto Group facility in Early, and Heartland Cruisers Vice President Jimmy Lewis stopped by KOXE Wednesday morning to discuss the weekend’s events.

“It’s going to be a fun-filled day with goody bags, food, vendors, and we’re going to give away 70-plus trophies and door prizes,” Lewis said. “We welcome everybody whose got a street rod, muscle car, sports car, classic car, race car, import, truck, low rider, motorcycle. If you can drive it down there, we welcome you.”

Events are slated to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday with a Panty Dash at 11 a.m., the Burn Out Contest at noon, and the awards presentation – sponsored by O’Reilly Auto Parts – that starts at 3 p.m. Admission is free, as well as registration.

“We are one of the largest car shows in a 100-mile area of Brownwood that puts on this size of a car show,” Lewis said. “We have all of our sponsors that make this possible. Most car shows you go to, there’s a $15 or $20 entry fee. We have such good support from our area that we’re able to put this car show on for free, and you get a goody bag and a T-shirt.”

Among the awards that will presented are Best of Show, sponsored by Diamond Custom Garage; Best GM, sponsored by Bruner Auto Group; Best Ford, sponsored by Big Country Ford; Best Mopar, sponsored by Stanley Dodge; Best of the Rest, sponsored by Chemical Weed Control; Best Bike, sponsored by ASAP Creative Arts and House of Wheels; Ladies Choice, sponsored by Matt Williams State Farm; and the Burn Out Contest is sponsored by Discount Tires.

The weekend festivities actually begin Friday night with the Poker Run, which takes place from 6 to 8 p.m.

“We’re kicking it off Friday afternoon in Early at the Sonic and Early City Hall,” Lewis said. “We’re having our Poker Run, it starts at 6, ends at 8, and it’s $5 a hand. We’ll be hitting five locations throughout town to create a poker hand. Then everyone’s going to meet back at the Sonic in Early and then we’ll give out prizes and trophies for the best poker hand and the worst poker hand.”

Along with this weekend’s event, the Heartland Cruisers meet each Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Sonic in Early for a cruise. For more information, visit heartlandcruisers.org or visit their Facebook page.
