Rickey Abernathy

Rickey Abernathy, age 69, of Santa Anna, died Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation.

The family will host a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2021 at the Whon Cemetery with Rev. Bobbie Lee, officiating and Tony Abernathy, assisting. Interment will follow in the Whon Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

He was born Rickey Wayne Abernathy on July 17, 1951 in Brownwood, Texas to Lee E. Abernathy and Gertrude “Trudy” Clifton Abernathy. He grew up in Whon and graduated from Santa Anna High School. Rickey owned and operated Abernathy Dozer for over 40 years. He also was a farmer and rancher. Rickey enjoyed hunting, raising goats and cattle, and spending time with family and friends. He was a life-long resident of Coleman County.

Preceding Rickey in death are his parents, Lee and Trudy Abernathy.

He is survived by his sons, Troy Abernathy and wife Lisa of Whon, Tim Abernathy and wife Miranda of Rockwood, and Tony Abernathy of Bangs; four grandchildren, Riley Abernathy and Johnny Abernathy of Bangs, William Gatlin, of Thrifty, and John Stewart of Brownwood; his sister, Linda Rutherford and husband Larry of Rockwood; and the mother of his children, Billie Gay Abernathy of Coleman.

Memorials are suggested in memory of Rickey to the Whon Cemetery Association, C/O Santa Anna National Bank, P.O. Box 668, Santa Anna, Texas 76878.
