Guy Nell West

Guy Nell West, 88, passed from this life on May 9, 2021, surrounded by her loving children. Guy Nell was born August 13, 1932 to Guy and Flora Westerman.

She is survived by her children, Robert Alan (Bob) West and wife, Cindy, Susan Jeanette (Sue) West, Ernest Ray (Ray) West III and wife, Jane, and Thomas Alonzo (Al) West and wife, Lori, eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, her sister, Betty Carman and husband Don Carman, and an aunt, Jetty Hartgrove of California. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Homer Gibbs West on November 27, 2013, by two brothers, J. M. Westerman and Bill Westerman, and two sisters, Myrtha Strain and Audrey Upton.

Guy Nell married Homer West on June 4, 1949, and embarked on her careers as wife, mother and educator, in each of which she excelled with a steadfast and Christian approach. Earning both undergraduate and graduate degrees, she committed herself to the education of young Brown County students for 33 years, finally retiring in 1998. As teacher, mentor, and educator appraiser, she influenced countless lives throughout her years of service.

A Celebration of Life for Guy Nell West will be held at the First United Methodist Church of May at 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 13, 2021. A private interment will be held at Amity Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Amity Cemetery Association, PO Box 1313, Rising Star, 76471 or to the First United Methodist Church of Rising Star, PO Box 535, Rising Star TX 76471.
