Longhorns, Dragons notch district baseball victories

DUBLIN – The playoff-bound Early Longhorns remained in second place in the District 8-3A baseball standings with 10-0 road victory over Dublin Friday.

Riley Hill and Caiden Laird combined to pitch a no-hitter, striking out 13 batters combined with three walks.

Early led 2-0 after two innings, 5-0 after three, 6-0 through five, 9-0 after six and tallied its final run in the seventh inning.

Jeremy Brown, Bradly Roman, Frankie Villarreal and Laird led the Longhorns with two hits each, while Caleb McCullough, Tyson Tyler, Rode Walters, and Jaxyn Price tacked on one each. Roman led the way with two RBIs while Villarreal and Laird were credited with one each.

The Longhorns (17-8, 9-3) host Bangs at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

DRAGONS 14, EASTLAND 12 (8 innings)

EASTLAND – The Bangs Dragons squandered a seven-run lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, but scored twice in the eighth for a 14-12 triumph over the Eastland Mavericks Friday.

Bangs (13-10, 7-5) inched closer to a playoff berth with the victory as the third-place Dragons have two games remaining at Early Tuesday and at home against Dublin next Friday.

The Dragons trailed 4-2 after two innings, took a 6-5 lead in the fourth and added six more runs before Eastland rallied.

Trevor Bowers led Band with three hits and two RBIs; Brayton Wedeman added three hits and drove in one; Guy Powell contributed two hits and a pair of RBIs; Ethan Cortez finished with two hits and drove in one; and Ethan Sanchez, Evan Belez and Ethan Ethridge recorded one hit and one RBI apiece.
