Louise Thompson, age 90, of Talpa, died Saturday, April 17, 2021 at the Central Texas Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ballinger.

The family will host a visitation from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.  A graveside funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2021 at the Talpa Cemetery Pavilion with Dr. David Medley, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating.  Interment will follow in the Talpa Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

She was born Elva Louise Tate on April 8, 1931 in Winters, Texas to William “Bill” Tate and Mae Riles Tate.  She grew up in Talpa and graduated from Talpa High School.  Louise then attended Draughan’s Business College in Abilene.  She married John Thomas “J.T.” Thompson on August 13, 1949 in Talpa.  Louise was the District Clerk in Coleman County for four terms, worked at the Coleman County Sheriff’s office, and Williams Tire Store.  She loved gardening and tending to her flowers, and even grew grapes for wine.  Louise enjoyed working with ceramics, sewing, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coleman.

Louise is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Maye Tate; her husband, J.T. Thompson; her brother, Weldon Tate; her sister, Lura Pauline Tate; and her son-in-law, Rick Hallford.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Sue Thompson Hallford of Talpa, Katherine “Kathie” Kay Handy and husband Jeff of Joshua, and Teri Ann White and husband Rickey of Coahoma; three granddaughters; four grandsons; and multiple great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Shon Hallford, Jon White, Delvin White, Rick White, Tad White, and Jeff Handy.

Memorials are suggested in memory of Louise to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 852, Coleman, Texas 76834, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
