HPU softball drops a pair of home games to McMurry

The Howard Payne University softball team lost two games to McMurry University 11-5 and 12-10 in 11 innings.

Game One
The War Hawks got off to a hot start scoring two runs in the first inning and one run in the second and third innings. The Lady Jackets got within one, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third.

Howard Payne got on the board on an Alexis Sullivan triple that plated Arora Luera and Brianna Lopez.

The War Hawks scored three runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the fifth to put the Lady Jackets down 10-5. The Lady Jackets were unable to score again, dropping the first game of the series 11-5.

Brianna Lopez went 2-for-3 at the plate and had one RBI.

Tia Campos recorded the loss pitching 3.2 innings, allowing four runs on five hits.

Game two
Howard Payne got off to a slow start falling behind, 9-1. The Lady Jackets had a huge sixth inning, scoring five runs to get back within 3.

The War Hawks scored one run in the top of the seventh to increase their lead to four. The Lady Jackets scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game 10-10 and force extra innings.

The Lady Jackets held off the War Hawks until the top of the 11th inning when they allowed two runs. HPU was unable to answer, losing the game 12-10.

Kylie Persons went 4-for-5 at the plate with 1 RBI.

Bree Cason pitched all 11 innings for the Lady Jackets, allowing 12 runs on 18 hits.

Howard Payne is now 12-8 overall and 7-7 in conference play. McMurry improves to 13-6 on the season and 9-5 in conference play. The two teams will finish out the series with a single-game on Friday at 12pm.
