Lady Lions fall to Stamford, Iowa Park at Graham softball tournament

GRAHAM – The Brownwood Lady Lions dropped their first two games at the Graham softball tournament Thursday, falling to Class 2A No. 9 Stamford, 3-0, and Class 4A No. 3 Iowa Park, 11-3.

Against Stamford, the Lady Lions were no-hit by Citlaly Guiterrez, who struck out nine and did not issue a walk.

Stamford (12-3) scored one run in the second inning and two more in the fourth.

Annie-Klein Allgood went the distance in the circle for Brownwood and yielded one earned run on four hits with five walks and five strikeouts.

Against Iowa Park (12-1), the Lady Lions carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning where Brownwood allowed six runs. Iowa Park tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The Lady Lions finished with six hits – two by Cecilia Rodriguez, including a solo home run; two by Chelsey Covey, including a double; a single and two RBIs from Allgood, and a single by Mia Lopez.

In the circle, Allgood and Auzzlyn Benedict combined to 10 earned runs on 13 hits, with one strikeout and three walks.

The Lady Lions (3-6-1) will attempt to snap their four-game skid when they return to tournament action Saturday.
