Thelma Barkemeyer, age 88, of Coleman, died Saturday, March 6, 2021 at her residence with her family by her side.

A graveside funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

She was born Thelma Lorene Steffey on May 12, 1932 in Coleman to Arthur Leonard Steffey and Annie Kelley Steffey. She grew up in Coleman where she attended school. Thelma married Robert Lee Barkemeyer on April 4, 1953 in Coleman. With this union came three children, Johnny, Robert Lee, Jr., and Linda Sue. Thelma loved to play bingo and spend time with her family. Her cherished moments were spent with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren whom all loved her very much. Her kind spirit and loving heart will be missed by all who knew her.

Thelma is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Linda Sue Day, and ten brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her sons, Johnny Barkemeyer and wife Julie of Glen Cove and Robert Lee Barkemeyer, Jr. of Salado; four grandchildren, Talena Faries, Morgan Self, Blanton Barkemeyer, and Kesha Ballard; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested in memory of Thelma to a charity of the donor’s choice, or to do a kind deed for a neighbor in need.

Remembrances, condolences, and messages of comfort can be expressed to the family at www.livingmemorials.com. Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Barkemeyer family.
