Nancy June Bowen, 88, of Bangs, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2021. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 10, 2021 in the Bangs Cemetery, Bangs, Texas.

Nancy was born July 26, 1932 in Ballinger to Lorraine Alexander and Annie Faye McKay. Nancy was moved around with her parents but returned to the San Angelo area and worked for Goodfellow Air Force Base. She attended a secretarial school in San Angelo where she learned to type 120 words a minute on a type writer. Nancy loved handling paperwork and found her niche by working in the District Attorney’s office in Brownwood, Texas. She had a knack for putting information into legal form and could clean up or fix any document for the public. She was independent, determined, organized and precise. Nancy was balanced single motherhood, a full-time demanding job and weathering the cares of the world in a world that was not that aware of such a woman. This brought her children close and filled them with admiration for her endurance. Later in life Nancy managed the Barrington Apartments in San Angelo and served as the city secretary in Bangs. She enjoyed writing poetry, music and painting. Nancy raised three children as a single mother and loved spending time with them and the grandchildren.

Nancy is survived by her sons, John Bowen of Bangs and Mike Bowen of Lake Brownwood; daughter, Sharon Sledge and husband Bill of Coleman; 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert McKay.

Online condolences, tributes and memorials can be given to the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.com.
