James “Jim” Loid Hamlin, age 85, of Brownwood passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021, at a local nursing facility after a lengthy illness.

Graveside Services for James will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at Ector County Rose Hill Cemetery in Odessa with Military Honors. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 7th, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

James was born on July 20, 1935, to William and Ada (Ward) Hamlin in Sylvester, Texas. At age 19, James joined the Marines and served 9 years, receiving Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal, and Korea Service Medal. After James served, he spent 2 ½ years ministering in Kairos prison and volunteered for 3 years at the West Texas State School in Pyote. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4372 in Odessa, lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans TX State #12, and lifetime member of the Marine Corps League at the Pecan Valley Detachment in Brownwood.

James loved working with wood and had a special talent of making clocks; he gifted those special clocks to family and friends. He always had a smile and kind words for anyone he met.

James is survived by his daughter, Tammy Jane Hamilton and husband James of Hobbs, New Mexico; his 2 grandchildren, Tabitha Franklin and husband Johnnie, Jenifer Bristow and husband Patrick all of Hobbs, New Mexico; several great-grandchildren; his brother, Don Hamlin of Odessa; and many nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to him as “Uncle Buck”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ada Hamlin; sisters, Vida Thomas, Melissa Smith, and Helen Scott.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, TX State #12 or the Marine Corp League, Pecan Valley Detachment in Brownwood or to your favorite charity or nonprofit organization.

Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Care Nursing & Rehabilitation and Dr. Amy Tindol for their loving care.

Online condolences for the family are welcome at www.blaylockfuneralhome.com.
