The Howard Payne Lady Jackets improved to 4-1 in American Southwest Conference softball action and 7-2 on the season by sweeping a doubleheader from the Ozarks Lady Eagles, 10-0 and 5-4, Friday in the first two games of a three-game ASC weekend series.

The Lady Jackets needed just five innings to enforce the run-rule in the series opener.

Howard Payne struck for five runs in the first inning, one in the second and four more in the third.

The Lady Jackets finished with 11 hits as Tori Muro led the way with three and a pair of RBIs; Raegan Noreiga added two hits including a three-run homer; ASC West Hitter of the Week Aurora Luera launched a solo home run; Brianna Lopez doubled and drove home two; Kiley Persons singled and plated a runner; Kayla Hill tallied a hit and an RBI; Alexis Sullivan doubled; and Zaleigh Perez singled.

In the circle, ASC West Pitcher of the Week Tia Campos hurled another shutout, allowing two hits and one hit batter with one strikeout over five innings.

In the second game Friday, Howard Payne needed an additional inning to secure the win.

Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Jackets scored three times to force extra innings, and chalked up a walk-off win in the eighth.

To draw even in the seventh, the Lady Jackets relied on a RBI single by Hill that plated Muro, an RBI sacrifice fly by Lurora that scored Brianna Gonzalez, and an RBI single by Deandra Longoria that brought home Lopez, but Persons was thrown at the plate.

After leaving two runners on base in the top of the eighth inning, Madison Love’s one-out RBI single brought home Noriega, who doubled, with the winning run.

Howard Payne produced a dozen hits – three by Noriega, two each by Muro and Longoria, and one apiece from Persons, Luera, Sullivan, Love and Hill.

Hannah Morales earned the win in the relief, allowing one hit while facing four batters. Bree Cason started and surrendered four earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

The series concludes at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lady Jacket Park.
