On Feb. 21, the Nigalye Medical Clinic-Lake opened its doors at 7153 Highway 279 in the Lake Brownwood area. The clinic’s Facebook page describes the facility as “rural family health care with same day appointments and walk-ins available.”
Family Nurse Practitioner Angel Bishop and Nurse/Office Manager Brenda Mobley are on site at the clinic daily. Bishop graduated from UT-Arlington with a Master of Science in Nursing degree in August 2020. For the previous 25 years, Bishop was a Registered Nurse. She spent the last 11 years as the Bangs ISD school nurse and has worked in inpatient rehab, labor and delivery, and outpatient child development.
“It’s really important to have options, and we don’t have a lot of family medicine options because Brownwood’s a smaller community,” Bishop said in regard to the opening of a new family medical clinic in Brown County. “Any opportunity to have an option close to home is great. We hope this becomes a medical home for people here at the lake, and that we’re able to provide for them with any illnesses or minor emergencies they may have.”
Bishop said the clinic is open to children and adults of all ages.
“It’s a family medicine clinic so we provide basic care for illnesses,” Bishop said. “Dr. (Narendra) Nigalye will come out once or twice a month for a couple of hours to see anybody that is more involved and needs internal medicine or anything more serious.”
Bishop added business has been brisk in the week-plus since the clinic has opened.
“A lot of people have stopped by, they’re getting information, seeing what’s going on, and getting paperwork to fill out for their families,” Bishop said. “They’ve asked questions about what insurances we take and we’ve taken several phone calls. We’ve got some stuff on Facebook that we’re working on.”
Services are available to anyone interested, Bishop said, not just those in the immediate lake area.
“I know Rising Star closed down their clinic, and I know the Cross Plains clinic is full and waiting,” Bishop said. “Maybe there are people from there and other areas we could provide for.”
Appointments can be made and additional information can be found through the Nigalye Medical Clinic-Lake Facebook page or by calling 325-784-3010. Hours are 8 a.m to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
