SAN ANGELO – The Brownwood Lady Lions softball team added two more wins to their season tally to conclude Concho Classic action Saturday, knocking off Amarillo Palo Duro, 6-0, and Big Spring, 6-3.

In the win over Palo Duro, Auzzlyn Benedict hurled a four-inning, one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and three walks.

Brownwood scored in all four trips to the plate – two runs in both the first and second innings and one each in the third and fourth.

The Lady Lions chalked up four hits – one each by Benedict, Chesney Covey, Mia Lopez, and Cecilia Rodriguez, who drove in two – with six walks, and Palo Duro committed six errors.

Against Big Spring, the Lady Lions jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, which was shaved to a single run in the third. Brownwood tacked on two insurance runs in the fourth.

Chesney Covey led the Lady Lions’ five-hit attack with a pair while Lopez, Chelsey Covey and Annie-Klein Allgood chipped in one apiece. Lopez, Chelsey Covey and Hailey Snell drove in runs.

In the circle, Allgood tossed all four innings and yielded three runs on three hits with one strikeout and three walks.

The Lady Lions (3-2-1) will play their first home game at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against San Angelo Central.
