KOXE Meteorologist Randy Turner has provided a temperature and wind chill forecast and timeline for not one, but two, winter storms expected to have major impacts in Brown County and surrounding area over the next week.  Brown County and neighboring counties are now under a Winter Storm Warning.

We are all familiar with the phrase “hope for the best, prepare for the worst”.  I urge you to prepare for the worst. Sorting through mounds of weather data Saturday morning, I’ve put together the following forecast timeline.  Please know our electrical power grid will be pushed to the max and electricity could definitely be lost for extended periods over the next week.  Have at least a week’s worth of food and water in your home that can easily be prepared without electricity.  The precipitation that falls will still be on the ground this time next week, frozen solid.  Near white out conditions are expected Sunday afternoon and Sunday night in blowing and drifting snow.  Stay home if you can.  If you have to travel, make sure you have extra blankets, food and water in your vehicle in case you become stranded.  Travel is not recommended.

WINTER STORM #1 Sunday (2/14) and Monday (2/15)
Snow is expected to begin Sunday morning but become heavier Sunday afternoon and night. Snow amounts of 2 to 5 inches are being forecast. The heaviest snow is forecast to end before sunrise Monday morning though light snow may continue after sunrise.  Near blizzard conditions are possible Sunday night.

Low Saturday Night:  17 (Wind Chill 5 to 10)
High Sunday:  17 (Wind Chill near 0)
Low Sunday Night:  6 (Wind Chill -10 to -15)
High Monday:  14 (Wind Chill 0 to 5)
Low Monday Night:  0-2 (Wind Chill -5 to -10)
High Tuesday:  21 (Wind Chill 10)
Low Tuesday Night:  19 (Wind Chill 5 to 10)

WINTER STORM #2 Tuesday Night (2/16) and Wednesday (2/17)

Another strong Winter Storm will move through Central Texas Tuesday night and Wednesday, likely dropping more sleet and snow amounts on top of the snow and ice from the first storm.

Temperatures are still forecast to remain below freezing through Thursday, February 18 and are still forecast to climb to the mid 30’s on Friday and back to the 40’s and 50’s Saturday, February 20.
