CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas – Howard Payne University senior Chelsey Harris surpassed 1,000 career points in an 89-65 Lady Jacket victory over the University of the Ozarks Saturday afternoon in conference action.

Howard Payne’s Chelsey Harris scored a game high 22 points on 8 of 15 shooting to pass 1,000 career points as a Lady Jacket. This season, Harris is second on the team in scoring at 9.1 points per game.

With the game tied at 13-13 with under two minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Lady Jacket put together a short run to gain a 19-15 advantage going into the second quarter.

HPU would never trail in the game from that point, building as much as a 13-point lead before the half. Shooting 53.8% from the field, the Lady Jackets outscored the Eagles 21-12 in the fourth to post the 89-65 victory.

The Lady Jacket defense forced 25 Eagle turnovers and held Ozarks to just 35.0% shooting from the field.

Following Harris’ 22 points for the Lady Jackets was Amanda Turpin off the bench with a season high 19 points, sparked by 5 of 12 shooting from behind the arc. Turpin also had three steals and three assists. Kayla Brigance had a season high 13 points and a game high nine rebounds. Lily Janek had 11 points and four assists. Salina Ali added five steals and six assists.

Ozarks was led by Kamryn McKinney with 19 points followed by Faith Curry with 17 points.

Howard Payne now stands at 4-4 overall and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference action. Ozarks falls to 0-8 overall and 0-8 in league play. The Lady Jackets will play next on Feb. 4th at home versus Concordia University Texas at 5:30 pm.
