SALADO – After playing to a scoreless tie in regulation, the Brownwood Lady Lions dropped a penalty kick shootout, 4-3, to Salado in Saturday morning’s consolation championship game of the Salado soccer tournament.

“The game against Salado today was a very even match,” said Lady Lions first-year head coach Alexis Mosqueda. “The entire game our passes were connecting, we had good control of our possessions, everything looked great. We just needed to put the ball in the back of the net.”

Watts Jones, Ibis Alvarado and Ataleigh Constancio recorded goals in the shootout for the Lady Lions (4-2).

“This tournament helped us grow tremendously, even with missing some of our key players due to quarantine,” Mosqueda said. “I’m happy with the direction of this team. A lot of my younger freshmen girls stepped up and played extremely well. I’m excited for the future of this team,”

The Lady Lions will be back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday when they host San Angelo Lake View.
