Seeking their second victory of the season, the Brownwood Lions soccer team were doubled up by the Class 5A Abilene Wylie Bulldogs, 4-2, Tuesday night at Gordon Wood Stadium.

Wylie opened a 2-0 lead at halftime, and stretched it lead to 3-0 before Cameron Phipps scored off an assist from Dryden Anderson with 21:20 left in the contest.

The Bulldogs tacked on their fourth goal via a penalty kick, while Phipps scored again with 34 seconds remaining following a rebound.

“We have no quit,” said Lions head coach Scott Swanzy. “We’re kind of young and sometimes a little hot-headed, but I would rather us have fire than us just be timid. We play hard but we don’t always make the best decisions. We had chances to score, we just didn’t finish near the goal and that’s been the story of the whole season. We have a phenomenal goal keeper, and a solid back line that keeps us in games, and we have some dangerous people up front if we can just work the ball. But we’ll got to work again tomorrow.”

The Lions (1-7) will be back in action at 6 p.m. Friday as they host Snyder.
