Brownwood News – In their January meeting held on January 12, the Board of Directors of the Brown County Water Improvement District awarded 24 leases on McCartney Island. Three were existing leases that had become available, plus 21 new leases recently made available by the District. More than 100 lease applications had been received by the District, so 24 names, plus three alternates, were drawn at random. The list of names drawn is below.
Also in the meeting the Board heard from Melvin Atkinson, Director of the Lake Brownwood Texas 4-H Center. Atkinson explained that they would like to construct some walking trails at the 4-H Center, and will apply for a grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for 80% of the cost of construction. As the 4-H Center resides on land leased from the Water District, Atkinson requested a letter of support for the trails from the Board of Directors. The Board did vote to support the trails and the grant application.
On the agenda was a request for a budget amendment to purchase fire pumps and upgraded radios for the Lake Patrol. The Board voted for the budget amendment, at a cost not to exceed $52,000.
