Larry J. McClain

Larry James McClain, age 73, of Brownwood, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2021 in Abilene. A graveside service for Larry will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2021 in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home in Early.

Larry was born on December 11, 1947 to Rev. James McClain and Balma Kelly in New Orleans LA. He was raised in Slidell LA where he attended and graduated from St. Tammany high-school. After graduation, he went directly into the Marine Corp. on April 22, 1968. After serving in the Vietnam War, Larry was honorably discharged on April 21, 1974. After his discharge he became a security guard in Fort Worth TX. Larry married Rose McClain on May 1, 1981 in Tarrant County. The couple was happily married for 39 years, 8 months, and 4 days until his passing.

He is preceded in death by his mother Mrs. Balma Kelly; his father Rev. James McClain and step-mother Doris McClain; and a brother, Leonard McClain.

Larry is survived by his wife Rose McClain; sisters, Sandra Hubbard and Ida Spruill; Enoch McClain, Rev, J.L. McClain and Danny J. McClain; children Larry B McClain and Dietrick Shannel McClain. Larry was also instrumental in raising Gary Middlebrooks Jr., Michael Middlebrooks, Peggy Perot, Patricia Middlebrooks, Gary Middlebrooks, Terry Middlebrooks, Waymon Earl Middlebrooks, and an abundance of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
