Sid was born on Friday, October 13, 1944 in Clifton TX, to Herschel, and Corene (Cantrell) Shields. He graduated from high-school in Coleman TX, then attended college at Tarleton State University. He married Janice VanPelt on Saturday, August 21, 1965. They were happily married until her passing in 2010. Sid loved to read, and make walking canes for members of his family and friends. The family would like to express a special thank you to Haley Bell and Carmen Kitchen for such wonderful care and friendship to Sid and family.
