BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Lady Horns notch first win; No. 17 May, No. 25 Brookesmith fall

The Early Lady Horns split their two weekend basketball games, picking up their first win of the season over Sidney, 54-38, followed by a 61-31 loss to Goldthwaite.

In the victory over Sidney, Tatum Reigle led the Lady Horns with 17 points followed by Jodie Lykes with 16, Dana Lykes with 10, Trinity Torrez with six and Caroline Welker with four points.

In the loss to Godthwaite. Trinity Torrez poured in nine points trailed by eight from Madison Torrez, five each from Reigle and Dana Lykes and four points from Jodie Lykes.

Early (1-2) is back in action at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Tolar.

Iredell 41, No. 17 May 38

The Class A No. 17 May Lady Tigers were dealt their first defeat Saturday, dropping a 41-38 decision to Iredell.

Roberta Robinette, Sophie Lord, and Brianna Steele led May with 10 points apiece trailed by Reese Chambers with four and Lexi Fox and Korlei King with two points each.

May (2-1) is back in action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against Goldthwaite.

Hawley 32, Bangs 29

The Bangs Lady Dragons are still seeking their first victory of the season after a 32-29 loss at Hawley Saturday.

Leading 12-6 after one quarter, Bangs fell behind 24-15 at halftime and faced a 28-17 deficit after three quarters.

Bailey Mendieta led the Lady Dragons with eight points followed by Rylie Guerrero with five. Bangs shot 1 of 8 from the free throw line.

Bangs (0-3) ventures to Grape Creek at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
