Robert Lee McKissack, 75 (Brookesmith)

Robert Lee McKissack, 75 of Brookesmith, Texas passed away September 26, 2020 at Lake Granbury Medical Center after battling an illness for several months. Funeral services will be held Saturday October 3, 2020 at 2pm at Heart of Texas Cowboy Church in Brookesmith, TX. Visitation will be held Friday 6-8pm at Brownwood Funeral Home.

Robert was born on June 4, 1945 in Hinesville, AR. Robert was adopted by Zoella McKissack when he was 6 months old.

Robert grew up in Talpa TX and in his adult years, was a proud member of The Heart of Texas Cowboy Church in Brookesmith. Robert also enjoyed attending Sunday evening church services at Haven of Hope Church here in Brownwood.

Robert joined the Marines on October 30, 1963 and was honorably discharged on October 27, 1969. Robert married Susan Fay McDaniel on February 14, 1968. Robert then went on to serve in the Army from February 1977 thru February 1983. Robert then served in the National Guard from 1984 – 1987. Robert was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany from 1976 thru 1980. Robert proudly served our Country for 24 years. After Robert left the Military, he worked as a heavy equipment operator with the Street Department in Brownwood. Robert then worked as a heavy equipment operator for Brownwood County Prescient 1. Afterwards, Robert worked as an OTO long haul truck driver.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother Zoella McKissack

Left to cherish his memories is his wife of 52 years Susan Fay McKissack; 2 daughters; Frances Fay McKissack of Brownwood and Nancy McKissack of Florida; 2 Sons; Robert Lee McKissack Jr. of Brownwood and Daniel McKissack of Houston. 6 grandchildren; Dwight and Charity Hoedebeck of Midland, Scott and Sylvia Hoedebeck of Brownwood, Damien Brown, Mi’Kel and Davion Cade of Florida. 3 Great-Grandchildren Mykah, Noah and Lincoln Hoedebeck, and a host of friends.
