Lorene Rutherford, age 84, of Coleman, passed away Thursday, September 24, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.

The family will host a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27, at Stevens Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 28, at the Coleman City Cemetery with Steve King, pastor of Bible Baptist Church of Coleman, officiating.

Interment will follow at the Coleman City Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

She was born Winnie Lorene Rutherford on November 26, 1935 in Coleman to Lee Anderson and Edna Woodard Anderson.  She graduated from Coleman High School and then attended business college in Fort Worth.  It was there that she met Vernon R.B. Rutherford and they were married November 24, 1954 in Fort Worth.  Lorene worked at Montgomery Wards for numerous years and was a bus driver for the special needs students in Santa Anna.  She loved to sew and make gifts for others.  Lorene enjoyed taking road trips while listening to bluegrass and country music, and the occasional stops at Big O’s in Valera or Underwood’s in Brownwood. Lorene was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Coleman and Order of the Eastern Star.   She was a devoted wife and loved her family deeply.

Lorene is preceded in death by her daughter, Vickie Rutherford; her son, Danny Rutherford; her brother, Weldon Anderson; and grandson, Michael Paul Rutherford.

She is survived by her husband, R.B. Rutherford of Coleman; her sisters, Nell Morgan of Coleman, Louise Montgomery of Coleman, Sharon Wells of Kansas, and Donna Johnson of Coleman; her grandchildren, Janice Porter of Florida, Julie Buckles of Dallas, and Brian Todd of Florida; and her great-grandchildren, Kelley Porter, Parker Porter, and Natilie Porter.

Remembrances, condolences, and messages of comfort can be expressed to the family at www.livingmemorials.com.  Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Rutherford family.
