KILLEEN – The Brownwood High tennis team chalked up another non-district victory Saturday with a 14-5 road triumph over Class 6A Killeen High.

Playing for the first time since the Sept. 10 District 6-4A opener against Glen Rose, the Lady Lions swept all nine of their matches to lead the charge against Killeen.

Collecting doubles wins were the teams of No. 1 Aaliyah Uvalle and Lillian Jonescue (6-3, 6-2 over Keiana Moore and Zaila Thomas), No. 2 Victoria Ramos and Aishwarye Nigalye (6-1, 6-2 over Esly Lopez and Caitlyn Masquez) and No. 3 Labritney Pollard and Tatum Dehart (6-0, 6-2 over Alijandra Gomez and Mary Kay Gutierrez).

Notching singles wins on the girls side were No. 1 Jonescue (6-4, 6-1 over Moore), No. 2 Ramos (6-1, 6-0 over Carliyah Jones), No. 3 Nigayle (6-2, 6-2 over Thomas), No. 4 Pollard (6-2, 6-4 over Marquez), No. 5 Dehart (6-1, 6-4 over Gomez), and No. 6 Natalie Mares (6-3, 6-0 over Gutierrez).

For the Lions, doubles wins were claimed by the No. 1 team of Mo Goff and Peter Le (6-1, 7-5 over Jeffrey Tran and Javier De La Cruz) and the No. 2 duo of Julian Lares and Jacob Singleton (6-0, 6-2 over Brandon Gill and Anthony Okeke).

Picking up boys singles victories were No. 1 Goff (6-1, 6-0 over Gill), No. 2 Le (3-6, 6-3, 10-5 over Tran) and No. 4 Lares (6-0, 6-2 over Okeke).

“I thought we played well,” said Brownwood High tennis head coach Crystal Blazek. “I’m just glad we could find a match before we play Gatesville next week.”

Brownwood (4-2, 1-0) resumes District 6-4A tennis action at 4 p.m. Thursday at Gatesville. The Lions and Lady Lions then host Lampasas at 9 a.m. Saturday and wrap up league play at Stephenville on Oct. 1.
