James Strakos

A Celebration of the Life of James Strakos, age 64, of Bangs, will be held at 11:00 AM, on Monday, September 7, 2020 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy McNeely officiating.  The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.

James passed from this life on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at his home, surrounded by family.

James Phillip Strakos was born on February 10, 1956 in Ozona to Adolph Strakos, Jr. and Barbara L. (King) Strakos.  He graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1974 and joined the United States Marine Corps.  He went on to serve his country for five years before receiving an honorable discharge in 1979.  He worked for Shell E&P from 1979 until 1995 and later worked in Maintenance for the Brownwood Independent School District from 1996 until his retirement in 2017.

James married Georgia Trobaugh on June 25, 1988 in Lewisville.  He was most happy hunting, fishing, gardening, spending time with his grandkids and playing dominoes with his friends.

James is survived by his wife of 32 years, Georgia Strakos of Bangs, three children, Stephanie Stroope and husband James of Brownwood, Derin Vrana and girlfriend Kayla of Killeen and Shelby Strakos and boyfriend Dustin McDaniel of San Angelo; seven grandchildren, Cheyenne Stroope of Stephenville, Michael Stroope of Brownwood, Dayton and Gentri Vrana of Iola, Coleton Vrana of Killeen, CharLynn Davidson of Brownwood and Alex Saffell. of Killeen; two sisters, Ann Hein and husband Dale of Bellville, Illinois, Kathy Shellenbarger and husband Charlie of Cuero, and a brother, Daniel Strakos of Pleasanton; six sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Barbara Strakos, a brother, Michael Strakos and a sister, Wanda Hall.
