Marie Fulbright Vaughn, 90

Marie Fulbright Vaughn, age 90, of Brady, and formerly of Coleman, died Sunday, August 2, 2020 in Brady.

The family will host a visitation from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 6, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 7, at the Church of Christ, 216 W. Elm Street, with Virgil Webb from Sunset Ridge Church of Christ officiating.  Interment will follow at the Coleman City Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

She was born Evelyn Marie Heilman on November 2, 1929 in Rockwood to Sherman “Penny” Heilman and Iris Evelyn Ellis Heilman.  Marie was raised in southern Coleman County and graduate Santa Anna High School in 1946.  She married John Wesley Fulbright on May 10, 1946.  Marie worked as a dental assistant for Dr. H.E. Howard and then went to work as a credit manager for Sears and Roebuck, and Nunley Ford Tractor.  Marie then became the office manager for the Overall Morris Memorial Hospital and worked there until she retired in 1991.  She was proud to have served 41 years in bookkeeping.  After John died in 1998, she married Jimmy Vaughn on April 10, 2002 in Coleman.  Marie was a member of the Coleman Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, the Triple L Club, Coleman Fine Arts League, Brownwood Arts League, and the Church of Christ.  She enjoyed teaching knitting, crochet, and oil painting.  Most of all, Marie loved her family.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John Wesley Fulbright; one sister, Opal Harmes; one brother, James Louis “Sonny” Heilman; a grandson, Breck Fulbright; and great-grandson, Mathew Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmie Vaughn of Brady; her children, J.W. Fulbright and wife Jackie of Coleman, D.L. Fulbright and wife Penni of Voss, Tony Vaughn and wife Melissa of Arlington, Shawn Marr of Leander, and Zane Vaughn and wife Naomi of Brady; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Belva Rutherford and husband Hilary of Coleman.

Memorials are suggested in memory of Marie to the Sunset Ridge Church of Christ, 2203 Menard Highway, Brady, Texas 76825.
