Brownwood News – The 83rd Coleman PRCA Rodeo got underway Thursday night, one of the first rodeos in the nation to allow fans to attend, though at 50% capacity.  Concerts, normally held after nightly rodeo performances, have been canceled this year due to Covid concerns. All contestants and rodeo personnel are being required to have their temperature taken prior to entry into the arena area each night.

With Coleman being one of the first rodeos to proceed as scheduled since March, 766 contestants have entered.   As a result, on Thursday night, following the normal performance, another 40 bareback, saddle bronc and bull riders competed until 11:45 pm.

Fans who stuck around until the end Thursday night were treated to a 90 point bull ride to finish the night.  Daylon Swearingen of Rochelle, Georgia put up 90.5 points to take the overall lead in the event.  There will also be more “extra” rodeo after the main performance on Friday night.

In Saddle Bronc Riding, Jacobs Crawley leads so far with 82 points while his brother, Sterling, is close behind at 81.

In the Bareback Riding, Orin Larsen leads with 88.5 points after Thursday night.

Currently sharing the lead in Tie-Down Roping are Reid Zapalac and Kincade Henry both with times of 9.0 seconds.

Leading the Steer Wrestling after Thursday night is Clayton Hass with a time of 3.8 seconds.

Leading Team Roping is Tanner Tomlinson and Brady Norman with a time of 4.0 seconds.

Leading Barrel Racing is Wenda Johnson with a time of 16.31.

Tickets are on sale for Friday and Saturday performances online at colemanrodeo.com.  Price of admission is $10 per person.  Kids 6 and under get in free.   Any remaining tickets not sold online nightly will be available for purchase at the rodeo until occupancy limit is reached.  The rodeo begins at 8:00 pm Friday and Saturday, June 12 and 13.

Brownwood radio station KOXE 101.3 FM is also broadcasting the rodeo live each night beginning at 7:45 pm.  You can stream KOXE 101.3 live at koxe.com.
