Doris Marie (Dunsworth) Dickerson, 76 of Brownwood departed this life, Tuesday, June 9, 2020.

The funeral service will be held in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel at 10 AM, Friday, June 12, 2020.  Interment will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Holder, Texas where their family farm is located. Officiated by Bill Slaymaker.

Doris was born August 16, 1943 at the Brownwood Memorial Hospital in Brownwood, Texas to Harvey T. & Vera King Dunsworth of Owens, Texas.  She was brought into this world by an Army Doctor from Camp Bowie that happened to be at the Hospital).  Doris was a member of Sunset Baptist Mission for over 50 years, watching as the children grew in faith.  Doris attended school at Owens (three classes in one room), a larger school at May, then graduated from Early High School in 1961.  She worked at Southwestern Telephone Company before its offices were moved to San Angelo.  Doris worked at various jobs as needed while raising her children but was dedicated in keeping children for 40 years.  She believed in helping children learn all they could so they could use it to help others.  She married June 4, 1959 to John Dee Dickerson, son of Clevie & Minnie Dickerson of Holder, Texas.  Doris spent many years with children in PTA, teaching Girls in Action at church and taking them to summer camp.  She volunteered for eight years helping in Girl Scouts & Boy Scouts.  Doris enjoyed videoing the area and children’s activities, sharing them to help encourage all to do their best.  She was an avid family history researcher, also sharing photos and history with everyone.

Doris is survived by one daughter, Diane Butler & husband Todd; their daughters, Courtney, Chelsey and one great grandson, Gavin Maxon of San Antonio, Texas; two sons, J D Dickerson & wife Amber; their three daughters, Lillian, Madisyn, Rylee and son, Dylan Dickerson of Killeen, Texas, and Jason Dickerson & wife Lauren of Abilene, Texas; sister, Mittie Dunsworth of Brownwood; and a devoted niece, Paula Denison of Brownwood; and many other beloved family and friends.

Doris will be joining her parents; two sisters, Estelle Callaway and Claire Dunsworth; and many friends and ancestors in the “family circle of God”.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Heart of Texas Baptist Camp, 8025 N. FM 2125. Brownwood, TX 76801. Phone (325) 784-5821.

Condolences, tributes & memorials can be shared with the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net
