Brownwood News – Howard Payne University senior Sarah “Abi” Brown’s senior art exhibition will premiere on the HPU School of Music and Fine Arts Facebook page on Monday, April 27, at 6:00 p.m. Also featuring a video introduction by the artist, the exhibition will be presented exclusively online.

The exhibition’s centerpiece is her Ekklesia series, a puzzle-like work consisting of separate pieces that fit together, each depicting people close to her. Her artwork also includes a broad range of styles and techniques, including paintings, ceramics, weavings, photographs, drawings and more.

The online format will be tailored to simulate an in-person gallery experience, with the video featuring Brown’s descriptions of the inspiration for her artwork and photos allowing for detailed viewing of each item in the exhibit.

“Seeing the culmination of the last four years of study, at one time in one room, anticipating their reception by the community as well as the year of change ahead, has been the most unique experience,” said Brown. “My time at HPU has been absolutely transformative and I’m eager to share that artistic and spiritual journey with my HPU family.”

Julie Mize, adjunct faculty member in the Department of Art, noted the artistic vision that Brown displays in her artwork.

“I have taught Abi in several classes and have enjoyed seeing the approach she takes to all her artwork,” said Mize. “She sees beyond what is expected and her artworks – no matter what media – show a unique vision.”

The gallery will be viewable online on the HPU School of Music and Fine Arts Facebook page, www.facebook.com/hpusomfa/.

For more information, please contact the School of Music and Fine Arts at 325-649-8500.
