Brownwood News – Brownwood ISD continues to work closely with state and local health departments to protect and provide services to our staff, students, and community, as well as prevent the potential spread of COVID-19.  The school district released the following information Tuesday afternoon.

March 17 Updates:

  • Food Service – Today, March 17th, we served 147 meals to students! Breakfast pick up (7:30-8:30), and lunch pick up (12:00 – 1:00) will continue tomorrow at Brownwood High School, East Elementary School, and Northwest Elementary School. Visit https://www.brownwoodisd.org/covid19fs for maps and updates.
  • Instructional Delivery Decisions – During this COVID-19 response, the decision about whether we provide traditional “on-campus” instruction for students or “off-campus” instruction is difficult. Pre-K through 12 educational entities are not as equipped to switch to “off-campus” approaches (online, teleconference, blended learning, etc.) as universities dealing with adult learners. Our faculty are currently tackling this challenge and designing effective methods we can use when students are off-campus.

The first factor we examine to determine “on-campus” versus “off-campus” is the presence of active COVID-19 patients in Brown County. If an active case is identified within our county, we will move to off-campus student learning for an extended time.

While there are no active cases in Brown County, we look at the number of staff and students who would likely be in attendance. An estimate of those who are quarantined, or for other reasons, would not attend on-campus, are identified through our travel form (https://www.brownwoodisd.org/springtravelform) and other data sources. If there is not a sufficient number of faculty members available to meet the instructional needs of the students who would attend, then off-campus instruction is the likely decision.

If we anticipate having a sufficient number of staff to provide services to students on-campus effectively, then the likely decision is to open campuses for students. We understand there will still be those who will not participate for various reasons, so off-campus methods would also be available for at the same time. We also consider the problematic nature of running two systems at the same time when making our decision.
