Brownwood News – During the Brownwood City Council meeting Tuesday morning, Brownwood Police Chief, Ed Kading, recognized three of his officers for their work on a home invasion robbery which happened January 30 in the 1600 block of 7th Street.

“Responding officers found a 70-year-old female resident physically assaulted with reportedly a gun and a knife.  A dog at the scene was also seriously injured.  Prior to officer’s arrival, three suspects had fled the scene.  Officers immediately tended to the injured and set up a working perimeter as the effective crime scene grew to a full city block,” Kading said.

Chief Kading recognized the following:

Sgt. Brandon Miller (unable to attend the meeting) was instrumental in developing a rapport with and obtaining statements from suspects in this robbery.  His ability to talk to people, his leadership, professionalism, and investigative knowledge led to gaining information that was vital in arriving at probable cause to make an arrest.

Corporal Kim Holland (shown in photo) of our criminal investigation division took charge of this case.  Criminal investigations of this nature are intricate and complex.  Her attention to detail, thoroughness, and passion for public service brought this case to a relative speedy conclusion.

Lt. James Kidd (shown in photo) is the commander of our Criminal Investigation and Patrol Division’s.  Not only did he lead by example by responding to the scene, he supported his people, communicated vital details to command staff, and completed a full, documented de-brief of the operation so we may improve all aspects of our service in the future.

In closing his presentation Chief Kading said “This incident does not reflect what Brownwood stands for or should be defined by.  I am pleased to report that our resident and pet are recovering.  I am extremely proud of all my personnel and rest easy knowing that we are prepared and capable of responding to violent, complex crime scenes.”
