Brownwood News – June Musick will tell you “Painting is the FUN stuff.” The artist/muralist will one of the artists demonstrating skills at the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit on Thursday.
She and Molly Merck Gore have exchanged demonstration dates, so Gore will be at the exhibit on Wednesday next week. Musick will join Jimmie Hudson, watercolors on canvas, and Mike Lewis, pottery, in Thursday’s schedule. Her theme is watercolor journaling.
The exhibit is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.
Musick paints quickly with passion and humor. In her class, every stroke of the brush comes with a smile. She has instructed many and loves the look on their faces when they “get it.”
Her family’s gypsy lifestyle provided both discouragement and opportunities but nothing would stop her, she said. She took it as a challenge to herself to go forward and learn all that she could. It may have kept her from obtaining any long-term formal schooling, but she would jump into a class wherever the family landed, tackling the arts head first to make herself an “artist/painter.”
She would pick up books, and take courses and workshops in every town. Her education was as eclectic as her style of artwork is now. And she likes the variety.

She now teaches art across the mediums, gives workshops, and holds classes in her home, community, and surrounding cities. She volunteers her time for various projects and special functions.
She is prolific in pencil, pen and Ink, acrylics and watercolor and mixed media.
In a nutshell, she said she loves to paint, anything and everywhere. Art is her life and she lives it.
She has been a member of the board of the West Texas Watercolor Society, Art League of West Texas, Urban Sketchers Lubbock Chapter, Member of American Watercolor Society, Muleshoe Art Association, Western Nevada Watercolor Society, Former Muralists of Yerington and director of the Fine Arts Department Lyon County Fair, among the many other chairs.
“It never matters what you paint; it’s the application of paint on canvas or paper that is the excitement,” she said. “Just push and pull that wet paint across any surface and put a smile on your face.
