Congratulations to our October 2019 Spotlight teacher, Mr. Derrick Stacks. Mr. Stacks is a science teacher and coach at Brownwood High School (BHS). He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1996. He is a certified teacher (6-12) in Secondary Physical Education and Science. Mr. Stacks began teaching in 1999 at Mesquite ISD. He came to Brownwood ISD in 2008 where he has been teaching and coaching aside from a brief stint in Temple ISD from 2016-2018.

Mr. Stacks is known to go above and beyond in his work at BHS. In addition to being a great coach and teacher, Mr. Stacks tutors students, is a mentor in the BHS Athletics program, and also teaches OnRamps and dual-credit Physics courses.
Brownwood ISD is thankful to have dedicated teachers like Mr. Stacks who not only teach, but mentor and continually show support for our students.

Ms. Laura Lopez is our October 2019 Spotlight staff member. Ms. Lopez is a Kindergarten Teaching Assistant at East Elementary. She graduated from Instituto America in Leon, Guanajuato Mexico and followed up with classes at Ventura College in California. This is her 6th year with Brownwood ISD, during which she has also served as a teaching assistant for both 1st grade and dyslexia classes.
Ms. Lopez excels in her duties, giving her all to ensure the kids are successful while also providing help to anyone who may need it. Her love for kids and her willingness to put others before herself is a light to those she works with.
Brownwood ISD is fortunate to have such a committed and enthusiastic individual to work with our students and staff.
