Jimmy Melvin Hicks, 78

Jimmy Melvin Hicks, age 78, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at his home.

Services will be Sunday at 2:00 PM, September 29, 2019 at Heartland Funeral Chapel.

A visitation will be held on Saturday from 6-8 PM, September 28, 2019 at Heartland Funeral Home in Early.  Interment will be at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early.

Jim Hicks was born on Sunday, March 30, 1941 in Van Buren, Arkansas to Harrison and Ethel Hicks.

Jim married Patricia Ann Ferguson on November 4, 1972, and began a life together that blessed them with four children.  He was a truck driver for 55 years retiring in 2012.  He loved to fish, hunt, gamble, play bingo and watch sports.  Most of all he loved being with his family and friends especially his grandchildren that he was very proud of.  He served on the Volunteer Fire Department at Lake Brownwood Dam from 1990 to 1999.  He became a life member of VFW Auxiliary in 2016 and a member of The Lions Club of Lake Brownwood in 2012. Jim was elected president of The Lions Club in 2017.

He is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Ferguson Hicks, his parents and one grandson, Joseph Hicks.

He is survived by 2 sons, Carl Hicks and wife Darlene of Brownwood, TX, Jimmy Hicks II and wife Becky of Early, TX; 2 daughters, Susie Pennington of Springfield, MO and Angela Walker and husband Derrick of Bangs, TX; 12 grandchildren, Jonathan Miranda and Elizabeth Pennington both of Springfield, MO, Samantha Hicks of San Marcus, TX, Robert Daniel, Ashley Moctezuma, Amanda Mejia, Amy Hicks, Dylan Hicks, Luke Hicks all of Brownwood, TX, Destiny Walker of Lubbock, TX and A1C Jimmy Hicks III of San Antonio, TX, also survived by his good friends, Gail Smiley and Byran Bishop.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The Lions Club of your choice.
