Florence Elizabeth Frey Hass, age 87 of Brownwood, passed away September 15, 2019 at the Chatfield Assisted Living community in Brownwood.

Graveside committal services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, October 5, at Greenleaf Cemetery.  A celebration of her life will follow at 11:30 at the First United Methodist Church in Brownwood with Rev. Jay Fraze officiating.  Services are under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 4, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Funeral Home.

Florence was born February 14, 1932 in New York, New York, the daughter of Dr. Charles N. Frey and Julia Lenore Leary Frey.  She attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison following high school and graduated with a degree in medical technology.  There on a blind date she met her future husband, David C. Hass.  They were married on April 18, 1953 and celebrated 66 years of marriage.  Soon after, they moved to St Paul, Minnesota where Dave began a career with 3M Company. In 1968 the family moved to Brownwood.

Florence worked as a medical technologist for several years in Brownwood and was a charter member of the Brownwood Regional Medical Center Volunteers organization, volunteering for over 50 years. She served the organization as president twice, was an original member of the Rosalie Muse Beadel scholarship committee and was selected numerous times as volunteer of the month. Florence and Dave were very active in the Suez Shriners and traveled to many events across the state as He competed in competitions involving the Suez Shrine Oriental band.  Florence enjoyed gardening and growing flowers and vegetables at her home and their Lake Brownwood property.  She also enjoyed snow skiing every year with her family, and skied into her late 70’s.

They were also very active members of First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. During that time Florence was one of the original members of the Care Committee, serving faithfully, and for 20 of those years Florence and Dave delivered Meals on Wheels and communion to members that were home bound.  Florence was a long-time member of the United Methodist Women (UMW) and recently served as Mission Coordinator. Florence & Dave were also long-time members of the Johnson Sunday School Class.

She is survived by four sons, Gregory Hass and wife Susan of Austin, Gordon Hass and wife Barbara of San Antonio, Steven Hass of Arlington, and Bruce Hass and wife Sandra of San Antonio.  She is also survived by Eight Grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a brother, Dr. Charles Frey of Rescue, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dave Hass on July 3, 2019, a sister, Martha Ann Frey, and a daughter-in-law, Debra.

Memorials are requested to be made to the First United Methodist Church. Friends are encouraged to sign the guestbook at www.davismorris.com.
