Billy Lee Hobbs, 85 (Mills County)

Billy Lee Hobbs passed away Monday, Sept. 16, 2019 at the Heritage Nursing Home in Amarillo.

Born June 30, 1934 in California, Billy grew up in Mullin where he met and married his wife of 63 years Martha Jane Shelton. They moved to Brownwood where Billy owned and operated Hobbs Industrial Services for 20+ years. He later went overseas to work for several years before returning to his hometown of Mullin.

Billy enjoyed his involvement in Mills County. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, wrote a column in the Goldthwaite Eagle “Veterans News” and served as Veterans Affairs Administrator. He was elected as Mills County Commissioner and was pastor of Pompey Mountain Methodist Church.

Billy retired to Amarillo in 2010 where he continued to pursue his love of woodworking and volunteering at the Amarillo VA Hospital.

Billy is survived by his wife, Jane Hobbs; children Guion and wife Sharon Hobbs, Greg and wife Josefina Hobbs, David and wife Leigh Ann Hobbs, and Mandy and husband Louis Frisbie; sister, LaJuana Price; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guion Hobbs and Lula Hobbs-Etheridge; and brothers, Glen and Don Hobbs.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 at Pompey Mountain Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Mullin Cemetery. Arrangements by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
