JoAnn (Chambers) Teague, age 88, of Brownwood went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, in her home surrounded by her family.

Graveside Services for JoAnn will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2019, at Greenleaf Cemetery with Bro. Tim Skaggs officiating. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

JoAnn was born on November 5, 1930, to Isom Alfred Chambers, Sr. and Stella Milam in Brownwood. She spent her entire life in Brownwood, graduating from Brownwood High School in 1948. She began working for Southwestern Bell while in high school and retired from GTE 36 years later.

JoAnn married James Teague in November of 1950; he preceded her in death in 2006.

She was a faithful member of Coggin Ave. Baptist Church, the Lydia Class, and the local ABWA. She volunteered regularly with Meals on Wheels and at Good Samaritan. She was a thoughtful and loving friend and was a loving caregiver to those who needed her, always with a kind word and a bright smile…. a true servant’s heart.

Besides her spouse, James, she was preceded in death by her father, Alfred, Sr.; her mother, Stella and stepfather, Curt Byrd; her brother, Alfred; and 3 sisters, Geneva Milam, Bobbye Perkins, and Baby Opal.

JoAnn is survived by one sister-in-law, Sammie Chambers of Ballinger; 8 nieces and nephews, Doris Mazurek of Comanche, Alfreda Shepard of Ballinger, Phil Chambers of Coleman, Ray Mazurek of Comanche, Donna Bailey of Highland Village, Tena James of Hillsboro, Tommy Thompson of Plano, and Rick Carpenter of Waco. She is also survived by other relatives and countless friends.

The family would like to thank Bobbie Long and Joan Hurt for their friendship and devotion to our beloved Aunt Jo.

The family request memorials be made to Coggin Ave. Baptist Church’s Building Fund (1815 Coggin Ave. Brownwood, Texas 76801) in her honor. Online condolences for the family are welcome at www.blaylockfuneralhome.com.
