Brownwood News – A Paint Rock man died in a one vehicle crash in Coleman County.  According to the preliminary accident report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the wreck happened 11 miles south of Voss on FM 1929 in southern Coleman County.  The time of the accident is listed as 11:30 pm on September 9.

Curtis Darrell Shipman, 58, of Paint Rock, was the driver pronounced dead at the scene. The body was transported to Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger.

A passenger in the vehicle was Wanda Elaine Shipman, 64, of Paint Rock. She was transported to Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo with critical injuries.

According to the DPS report, the Shipman’s were in a 2001 Ford F-250 pickup and were traveling South on FM 1929. They encountered a deer in the roadway. The driver veered right, then over-corrected left, and into a side skid. The vehicle rolled over into a pasture, ejecting the driver. The crash is under investigation.  Seat belts were not worn by either occupant, according to the report.
