Nanda Kae Dozier Wilbourn, 64, of Brownwood, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2019.
A Candlelight Vigil will be held at East Elementary Sunday, July 28, 2019 at 8:30 PM.
A Memorial service will be Friday, August 2, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Brownwood at 2:00 PM.
Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, August 1st at Heartland Funeral Home, 303 Early Blvd., Early.
Nanda was born Thursday, February 3, 1955 to Brooks and Faye Hill Dozier in Angleton, Texas. She graduated from Mac Arthur high school in Irving, Texas. Nanda attended Texas Tech University and Sul Ross State where she received a Bachelor’s of Science degree. She received her Master’s in Education from Stephen F. Austin. Nanda married Joey Wilbourn April 23, 1994 and began a life together that blessed them with 2 sons. Nanda was the Principal at East Elementary for Brownwood ISD. She loved being a Principal. She grew up in a school environment. Her father, Brooks Dozier, was a high school math teacher and basketball coach. When she was a little girl she often traveled on the bus with her dad and his team. The players loved to tie her ponytail (or pig tails) to the back of the bus seat. Her mother, Faye, was an elementary school teacher. Nanda spent countless hours helping her mother with preparations in her classroom. Her family often said she “inherited” the teaching profession. She was born into a family of music lovers, too. Nanda was chosen to sing in the All-State choir in high school. After completing college, she spent a year traveling the southern states doing concerts in churches and led conferences. Sharing her faith was important to her. She valued authenticity. Her life revolved around her home, church and school. She loved having people in her home and was a marvelous cook.

Nanda carried herself with a powerful grace. When you looked into her blue eyes, you would see more love reflected back at you than you were ever capable of giving yourself. She chose daily to put the needs of others before her own. The type of people who will sacrifice their energy and time, day in and day out for the benefit of others are few and far between, but Nanda knew nothing else. Her life was one of boundless servitude and unconditional love. From being the coach’s daughter to the elementary school principal, she was a shining light of all that was right with the world. Simply being in her presence would give you the hope of a better tomorrow. If every community had a Nanda the world would be a better place. There are volumes that could be written about the good that she was, but if you truly want to live in remembrance of her simply give everyone the love that they deserve. She could see the hurt that each of us carried and did her best to fix it. Do as she did and leave the world around you a better place than you found it.
Nanda is survived by her beloved husband, Joey Wilbourn of Brownwood; 2 sons, Caleb Wilbourn of Donner Summit, California and Joshua Wilbourn of Dallas; her mother, Faye Dozier Jarvis of Brownwood; brother, Brooks Dozier III of Austin; sister, Jo Latino of Austin; mother-in-law, Anna Wilbourn of Wills Point; nephew Drex Holt of Brownwood; many students, colleagues and friends.
Nanda was preceded in death by her father, Brooks Dozier; father-in-law, Jimmie Wilbourn; brother-inlaw, Anthony Latino; her aunt, Alice “Aunt sister” Worley.
