Mary Lou Packer passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, July 21, 2019 in Brownwood. She was 87 years old.

A visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Heartland Funeral Home in Early.

Graveside service will be held at Eastlawn Memorial Park on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 10 a.m.

Mary Lou was born on Sunday, August 16, 1931 in Rosebud, Texas to Ruben James and Pearl McIntosh Packer. She graduated from Ballinger High School and went on to Hardin Simmons University. She finished her college degree at Howard Payne College and did her clinical internship in Medical Technology at Scott and White in Temple. She then returned to Brownwood and began working at Medical Arts Hospital as a laboratory technician. After several years in the medical field, she returned to school and earned a business degree. Afterwards, she went to work for J R Beadel in his transport and storage business. She worked her way up as a trusted and loyal employee to head bookkeeper for the JR Beadel chain of grocery stores and later as part owner. She became an accomplished business/real estate owner and philanthropist.

Mary Lou loved animals and had many pets through the years – even a monkey. Her special friends were her dogs and she always had many in her care. She depended on them to hear for her, since she had lost most of her hearing at an early age.

Mary loved her Lord, Jesus Christ and sought to do His will in her life. She taught a women’s Sunday school class for many years and supported Christian evangelistic and humanitarian outreach across the globe. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Mary Lou Packer never married. She is survived by her brother, Ruben Packer and wife, Glenda of Brownwood; nieces Angelia Bostick (Larry), Sindy Miller (Royce), Lucindy Packer (Brian); nephews Ruben “Buster” Packer (Carol), Mark Packer, Luke Packer (Holly); numerous great nieces and nephews and her dachshund, Buddy.

In lieu of flowers, family would like donations to be made to The Corinne T. Smith Animal Shelter 3016 Milam Dr. Brownwood, TX 76801 or the charity of your choice.
