Brownwood News – Brown County Commissioners met Monday morning and acted to reinstate the Burn Ban effective immediately.  The Burn Ban will be in effect for 90 days unless canceled early.  Violation of the Burn Ban is a Class C misdemeanor which carries a fine not to exceed $500.

In other business:

• Commissioners approved Resolution #2019-02, an agreement between the County and Texas Department of Transportation for structural improvements to certain bridges in the county.  Commissioner Wayne Shaw explained that every two years, TxDOT inspects all the bridges in the county and designates the ones they will rebuild.  “We (County) have to do 25% in-kind work on bridges and culverts.
• County Treasurer, Ann Krpoun, gave the Treasurer’s 2nd Quarter Investment Report showing county investments returned $124,167 in interest, well above the $78,000 at the end of the 2nd Quarter last year.  Commissioners approved the report.
• Commissioners approved an employee change in the Sheriff’s Department for a new jailer.  The jail report showed 161 inmates in the Brown County Jail as of Monday, July 15.  Of those, 15 (7 male, 8 female) are out of county inmates.
• Commissioners approved a renewal of county health insurance with the Texas Association of Counties as recommended by Bart Johnson of Painter and Johnson Financial.  The plan approved is $174,000, (compared to $220,000 last year) and keeps the county grandfathered in to coverage to insulate the county from huge premium increases down the road.  Johnson noted a wellness program has helped the County and claims are trending downward.  Open enrollment for county employees is expected to begin in September.
