Brownwood News – The Brownwood Senior Citizens Center wants residents to know their home delivered meal program will continue as always, Monday through Friday.   Many people called the Senior Center early this week after a news article on the plans for the Meals on Wheels Program to close in Brownwood late this month.

The Brownwood Senior Citizens Center Home Delivered Meal Program and Meals on Wheels are two different programs.  “If you receive a meal in a plastic, reusable container, your meals are not going anywhere.  If you receive Styrofoam containers, that’s the Meals on Wheels Program that is ceasing to exist June 28, but we want to help those people as well,” said Angie Dees, Program Director at the Brownwood Senior Citizens Center.  Those interested in the Home Delivered Meal Program can call the Senior Center at 646-0559 for help in getting on their program.  The Senior Center serves 150-160 home delivered meals inside Brownwood city limits each weekday.  Residents of Early can also participate.  “If those people that Meals on Wheels were servicing in Early want to come here and eat, we can do that for them.  We are in contract with CARR (City and Rural Rides) who will come and pick them up, bring them here so that they can be here for the activities as well,” Dees said.  Residents must be over the age of 60 to participate in these programs.
