Mary Valdez

Dominga Louisa “Mary” Valdez, age 73, of Brownwood passed from this life on Monday, April 22, 2019 at her home following a lengthy illness.

She was born July 15, 1945 in Lincoln, New Mexico the daughter of Leon and Beatrice Baca.  She grew up in New Mexico and moved to Brownwood at an early age.  She later married Frank Valdez, Sr. who preceded her in death in 2012.  She was a homemaker who loved to cook homemade meals especially her large tortillas and fidel.  She loved animals and especially her dog “Chato” whom she lost earlier.  She loved her family and being with them whenever possible.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Katie Huro of Brownwood, three sons, Frank Valdez, Jr. of Early, George Valdez and wife Leah of Brownwood, Christopher Valdez of Bangs, a sister, Lorena Baca of San Antonio, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister-in-laws, Katherine Valdez and Juanita Valdez, and brother-in-laws, Raphael Valdez, Pete Valdez, John Valdez and Cecil Garcia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank Valdez, Sr., two brothers, Raymond Baca and Fred Baca and four sisters, Lucia Torres, Betty Medina, Gloria Sanchez, and Jessie Garcia as well as her in-laws, Phillip Valdez, Jesse Valdez Jr., Tonie Valdez, Lucia and Jesus Valdez, and Joe Valdez.

Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 pm on Wednesday with a rosary recited at 7 PM in the Davis-Morris Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Thursday at St. Mary’s Queen of Peace Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in the Greenleaf Cemetery.
