Brownwood News – Howard Payne University’s Concert Choir and University Singers will present “Requiem, K. 626” by W.A. Mozart on Tuesday, April 23, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Brownwood. The event is free of charge and open to the public.

This unique setting of the work will be the Texas premiere of Carl Czerny’s four-hand piano arrangement. Czerny, a classical composer, teacher and pianist, boasts a musical oeuvre of more than 1,000 works. One such publication is this arrangement of Mozart’s “Requiem.” The arrangement was dedicated to the edification of Abbé Maximilliam Stadler, whose work of compiling Mozart’s fragments was of great significance to the eventual completion of “Requiem” by Franz Xaver Süssmayer.

Dr. Elizabeth Wallace, professor of music and chair of HPU’s Department of Music, and Dean Kiesling, music teacher at Northwest Elementary and pianist and organist at First United Methodist Church in Brownwood, will perform this pianistic behemoth.

Dr. Christopher B. Rosborough ’08, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities, will conduct the evening of music. Soloists will include Dr. Celeste Church, interim provost and assistant vice president for research and accreditation; Danielle Rosborough ’08, database manager; Dr. Gregory Church, professor of music; Dr. Iwao Asakura, associate professor of music at Tarleton State University; and Joy Renée Blackstock ’07.
