Brownwood News – Congratulations to our April 2019 Spotlight teacher, Mr. Billy Taylor. Mr. Taylor is a Kindergarten Teacher at Northwest Elementary. He is a Brownwood graduate and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Tarleton State University in 1985. Mr. Taylor is a certified teacher with 20 years of experience, all in Brownwood where he began as a Teacher’s Aide in 1999.

Mr. Taylor displays a genuine passion for his profession. He teaches his students manners, how to be polite, and is known for making his classroom a fun and creative learning environment for kids. Mr. Taylor participates during dress-up days, wearing crazy wigs and going all out to encourage students and make learning fun. He also uses his wood-working skills to help students create incredible works of art they can keep for a lifetime.

Brownwood ISD is thankful to have teachers like Mr. Taylor. We are proud to recognize him for the energy he puts into his classroom and his continued dedication to making learning so enjoyable for our students.

Mr. Val Garcia is our April 2019 Spotlight staff member. Mr. Garcia was born and raised in Brownwood and graduated from Brownwood High School in 1973. He went to work for Verizon in 1976 and, after 31 years, retired in 2007. Mr. Garcia worked in maintenance for The Ark in Brownwood before joining the Grounds Department at Brownwood ISD in 2012.

In September of 2018, Mr. Garcia was promoted to Grounds Foreman and has done a wonderful job. Crew members have raised their pride level significantly and he and his crew work diligently to keep school grounds looking good. In addition to all he does in the Grounds Department, Mr. Garcia oversees a storage facility and also organizes the crew that moves equipment, furniture, and books throughout the district. His leadership has proven to be vital and crucial to the success of the grounds department.

Brownwood ISD is grateful to have staff members like Mr. Garcia, who not only take pride in the quality of their work but strive to perform their duties at an exceptional level.
