Sybil Cornelius was born on April 23, 1925 to the late Gus and Ola Dalton Meyer in Mills County. On December 4, 1944, she married the love of her life James F. Cornelius in Goldthwaite. They enjoyed 59 years together and raised two children.  Sybil worked as a dental assistant for Tom Stewardson, DDS for 13 years before retiring to be “Meme” to her pride and joy – her three granddaughters. Sybil was a faithful member of the Austin Ave Church of Christ. Her family remembers her as a precious loving mother and grandmother, caring friend, and one who loved the Lord and the beauty God created.

Sybil is survived by one daughter, Pamela Mikel and husband Richard of Burleson; one son, Jimmy Cornelius and wife Joyce of Early; her three granddaughters, Jacilyn Laughlin and husband Mark of Arlington; Juliane Sullivan and husband Chris of Early; and Jimma Travis and husband Blake of Richardson; five great grandchildren, Lundyn, Luke, and Liam Laughlin, Elizabeth Oxford Diehl, and Savannah Travis; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents, Gus and Ola Meyer, seven brothers, and a sister.

A visitation of the family will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 from 6-8 pm at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday February 6, 2019 at 2 pm at that Austin Ave Church of Christ with Jerry Leslie officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakview Cemetery in Mullin. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Cherokee Children’s Home, PO Box 295, Cherokee, 76832 or the Austin Ave Church of Christ Youth Group, 1020 Austin Ave, Brownwood, 76801.
