An amazing man went to be with the Lord on Saturday.  Larry Schwartz passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Hendrick Hospice Care in Abilene.

Larry Melvin Schwartz was born on May 20, 1946 to Layart C. and Edna S. Lubke Schwartz, in Goldthwaite.   He grew up in the German community of Priddy and graduated from Priddy High School in 1964 after playing many years of basketball with his fellow friends.  He married Ruth Striepe on May 31, 1967 at Johnsonville Township, Minnesota.  They enjoyed 51 years together and were blessed with two daughters, Shelly A. Jasek of Waco and Shannon L. Adams of Early.

Larry worked for Superior Cable for 28 years and later for TxDOT for 18 years.  In addition, he enjoyed farming and ranching on his place in Early and on the home place in Priddy.  His support of his church and community was very strong.  He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and had served in various church offices as well as singing in the choir.  He had served on the Brown County Fair Board and was active with the Good Samaritan Pig Project.  He was also a member of the Brown County Sheriff’s Posse riding group for many years.   He was also active in his support of the Early Community Fund.   He was an avid supporter of his daughters and their projects, hauling steers to major shows in Ft. Worth, Houston and helping other contestants from Brown County and attending basketball games.

Larry is survived by his wife, Ruth, and their two daughters, Shelly Jasek (John) of Waco, Shannon Adams (Donny) of Early and four grandchildren, Abigail Jasek, Aaron Jasek, Morgan Adams and Dalton Adams.  Larry was most proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and supported them.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Carolyn Gilstrap, and nephews Corky Lynn Cornelius and Bodie Kirk Gilstrap.

A visitation will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 1401 First Street – Brownwood, on Thursday, January 17 from 5:00 – 8:00p.m.  Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Priddy, on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Zion Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to Good Samaritan Ministries Pig Project/Brownwood, the church or charity of your choice.

Heartland Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
