Written by Ben Cox – With 100 percent of precincts reporting in at just after 8:30 November 6th, the Brown County Elections Office has released the unofficial results from this years election.

Republican candidate Paul Lilly defeated Write In candidate Steve Fryar, winning with 8,249 votes to 2,171.

Lilly said shortly before leaving the Elections Office “As a professor I speak for a living, and it’s very rare to find a professor speechless. I’m humbled and at a loss for words to express  how deeply honored I feel and my gratitude to all the supporters who provided what looks like the largest margin in Brown County history.”

Lilly continued “I think this race was very important to a lot of people. Also my good friend Ted Cruz, a lot of people wanted to come out and support him, too. The judges race and the US Senate race is what I believe brought out our record for mid-term election. It is a continued endorsement of our President, that people are very happy with the economy and they want to make sure it stays going the right direction.”

Steve Fryar said, when contacted after the unofficial results were announced “Of course, it’s not the result we wanted. We jumped into this race to win it, and there were two huge factors against us. Write-In is always a huge mountain to climb, and this is the last election cycle in Texas that we can vote straight ticket. I knew that going in, but at the same time I’m very proud that we did it. We met a lot of great new people and made a lot of new friends and phenomenal supporters. We would like to thank everyone who came out and voted for us.”

Fryar had a message for Paul Lilly on his victory. “Congratulations, do a good job and make us proud.

The local option election to create a balanced set of rules regarding the sale and service of alcohol in Brown County passed, with 7,524 people voting for the measure versus 2,510 people voting against.

Steven McCrane, who was selected as the spokesperson for the Brown County Committee for Better Business said “Thank you to all Brown County voters for backing the many businesses that wanted a level playing field across the county.”

In the May School Board election, Ben McInnis took home 20.6 % of the vote with 377 ballots cast in his favor. Teri S Murphree was close behind with 19.4 % of the vote, with 355. These results are still unofficial and may change after further review.

In the Texas Senators race, Brown County resoundingly favored incumbent Ted Cruz, with 10,386 votes cast against the 1,669 ballots cast for Beto O’Rourke.

Representative Mike Conway garnered 10,550 votes versus 1,447 for Jennie Lou Leeder.

Governor Greg Abbott won Brown County with 10,635 voters in his favor as opposed to Lupe Valdez’s 1,457 votes.

In the Lt. Governors race, Dan Patrick took 10,061 votes to win Brown County, while Mike Collier only received 1,873 local votes.

Again, these figures are unofficial and may be subject to change pending final tabulations.
